Seçkin okullarda 3 yıl, CPS ve Chicago Banliyölerinde devlet ve charter okullarında 15 yıldan fazla çalıştım. Bu, gördüğüm en kötü yönetilen okul, PERIOD! 2 okul çağında çocuğum olduğu için kızlarımı bu Seçkin Okullara neden kaydetmediğim soruldu ama hiç düşünmedim. Bu okullarda 28+ öğrenciye 1 öğretmen oranı yüksektir. Buradaki üç yıl boyunca benim görevim, özel eğitim bölümleri için yardımcı profesyonellik ve işinin sabahı hasta olduğunu söyleyen öğretmenler için acil bir ALT oldu. Çocuğumu temelde tablet veya krom kitaptan ders veren bu sınıflara veya okullara koymam (bunu evde çocuklarıma ücretsiz eğitim için yapabilirim). Buradaki öğrenciler için günün çoğu, öğretmenler ve Dean'in davranış yönetimi için mücadelesi sırasında matematik uygulamalarına (ST matematik) ve okuma uygulamalarına (Lexia) gömülür.

Öğrenciler personelle konuşur ve endişe verici bir oranda onlara küfreder. Bu Seçkin okullarda başarılı olmak için Teach Like A Champion'ı okumaktan daha fazlası gerekir. Bir öğretmenin gün için dışarıda olması için bir yedek doldurmak zorunda kalırsa tam bir kaos var. Kavgalar, zorbalık ve kontrol etmenin bir yolu yok. Ayırt edici ağ amirleri ve diğer Hibeler (okullara para vermek isteyen) bu okula onların da neyi desteklemek veya bağışlamak istediklerini görmek için geldiklerinde, öğrencilere ve öğretmenlere bilgi verilir ve sessiz kalmaları ve odalarında ekstra ikramiye ve ödüller verilir. "Koridorlarda sorun yok." Hangisi sahte. Keşke bu bağışçılar ve üstler bu okulun gerçekliğini bilse!!!! Bu okula bağış yapan herkesi kandırıyorlar. Öğretmenlerin, öğrenciler kontrolden çıktıkları ve davranış yönetim sistemi onlara çok az yardım sağladığı için yılın sadece birkaç haftasını bıraktığını gördüm. SUBS'in öğrenci davranışı ve geri konuşma konusunda tiksinti içinde ayrıldığını gördüm ve öğretmenlerin buna bir çözümü yok.
Yönetim, öğrencilerin hayatta başarılı olmak için gerçek ihtiyaçları ne olursa olsun, kendilerini iyi göstermek için ne gerekiyorsa yapacaktır. Engelli öğrencilerin yıllarca burada ihmal edildiğini ve yanlış yaptıklarını düzeltmek veya düzeltmek için dünyada umurumda olmadığını gördüm. Görünüşe göre öğrencileri davranışsal sorunları olduğu konusunda zorluyorlar. Buradaki 3 yılımda, öğretmenlerin yarısından fazlasının her yıl ayrıldıklarını veya geri istenmediklerini gördüm. Çoğunluk o kadar kaotik olmayan okullara devam ederken, Chicago'daki gençleri eğitmekten ve onlara rehberlik etmekten gurur duyan okullar. Bazıları, bu charter okulunda isteğe bağlı çalışan olduğunuz için okul yıllarının sonunda işsiz kalır. Yani, öğrencilerle harika çalışmanıza rağmen sizi sevmiyorlarsa, gittiniz.
