Pequeno Príncipe Hastanesi'nin geçmişi, bir grup hayırseverin Sociedade Protetora dos Menores Desamparados'u (Terk Edilmiş Çocukları Koruma Derneği) kurduğu 1919 yılına dayanmaktadır. Örgüt, Curitiba'daki yoksul çocuklara barınma, eğitim ve sağlık hizmetleri sağlamayı amaçlıyordu. 1926'da dernek, çocuklara özel ilk hastanesini açtı - Hospital Infantil de Curitiba.
Hastane zamanla tesislerini ve hizmetlerini genişletti. 1951'de adı Hospital de Crianças de Curitiba (Curitiba Çocuk Hastanesi) olarak değiştirildi. 1967'de Antoine de Saint-Exupéry'nin ünlü kitabı "Küçük Prens"ten esinlenerek Hospital Infantil Pequeno Príncipe (Küçük Prens Çocuk Hastanesi) olarak tanındı. Son olarak, 1991'de adı basitçe "Pequeno Príncipe Hastanesi" olarak değiştirildi.

Kardiyoloji, onkoloji/hematoloji/kemik iliği nakli ünitesi (BMTU), nöroloji/beyin cerrahisi/rehabilitasyon ünitesi (NRU), gastroenteroloji/hepatoloji/beslenme ünitesi (GHNU) gibi çeşitli uzmanlık alanlarına dağılmış 370'in üzerinde yatağı vardır.
Hastanede ayrıca pediatrik tıbbın çeşitli alanlarında son teknoloji araştırmalar yürüten bir araştırma enstitüsü bulunmaktadır. Pequeno Príncipe Araştırma Enstitüsü'nün (PPRI) 200'den fazla araştırmacısı vardır ve birçok ulusal ve uluslararası kurumla işbirliği yapmaktadır.
Hastane Pequeno Príncipe, sağlık ve araştırmaya ek olarak eğitime de kendini adamıştır. Bir hemşirelik okulu, tıp öğrencileri için bir ikamet programı vardır ve sağlık uzmanları için çeşitli kurslar sunar.
